As it says on the box, a DPF is there to catch diesel particulates (or soot). Indeed, it’s designed to reduce the amount of particulates making it out into the atmosphere by 80 percent. However, because a DPF, just like any filter, has a limited capacity to filter before it becomes clogged, it has a bunch of sensors built in that will see it
I made three (3) round trips of 2,200 miles (1.1K each way) over a 9 month period before attending to the internally cracked DPF. I did have well over month of around town driving prior to the 1st road trip & was comfortable with the car & situation. Prior to the first round trip, I made similar inquiries to yours (most were on TDI FB groups).
Hyundai Tucson Ultimate new in April 2023. Petrol driven (got rid of first diesel ever bought prior to this because of PDF warnings all the time). 1600cc engine with 3 driving modes. On 19/12/23 warning light to keep driving and regenerate exhaust filter. Didn’t know it had an exhaust filter but NOT impressed.
